The Head Coach is responsible for the overall organization, direction, supervision and administration of Mansfield Athletics Sprint Football program. Duties include: recruiting student athletes within the rules and philosophy of the CSFL and CU-Mansfield; evaluating student-athlete talent – both academically and athletically; ensuring the retention of student-athletes to Mansfield, emphasizing academic priorities to student athletes; organizing and conducting all practices; providing appropriate strategy for competitive success; providing direction/assignments to assistant coaches; related administrative tasks; fund raising; and maintaining appropriate communication with students, other coaches, staff, parents, alumni, and the media.
Description of Duties
To plan, direct and organize all aspects of training, practices and contests in collaboration with assistant coaches, athletic trainers, and the department staff.
To direct and be involved in the recruitment of athletically and academically qualified student-athletes and to ensure that recruitment practices are consistent with all CU-Mansfield regulations.
Supervision of assistant coaches, any manager(s) or student employees.
To plan and participate in fundraising and alumni engagement activities associated with the sport of Sprint Football and the overall intercollegiate athletic program. Work closely with the Director of Athletics and Mountaineer Foundation for fundraising efforts.
To assume responsibility for appropriate administrative tasks such as equipment inventory, travel arrangements, budgetary oversight, and game management.
Work with the athletic department to track student-athlete eligibility.
Maintain a roster of 60–70 student-athletes during the fall term and oversee 50–70 student-athletes throughout the spring term.
Collaborates with the Director of Athletics for scheduling of games and transportation.
Track recruiting with the athletic department’s recruiting and compliance software program.
To assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Demonstrates and promotes good sportsmanship. Shows respect for officials and collaborates with teammates and staff to understand and uphold the principles of sportsmanship as they relate to rules, teammates, opponents, and spectators. Positively represents the athletic department, alumni, CU-Mansfield, and the program, serving as a role model for students.
Competition strategies
Practice planning
Fundraising efforts, in collaboration with the Director of Athletics. Alumni engagement activities, in concert with the Director of Athletics and Mountaineer Foundation.
Personnel decisions, in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Human Resources
Must be adept at problem-solving; both in long-range situations and immediate “game-time” situations.
Collaborate decisions with the Director of Athletics about budget planning, eligibility, scheduling, compliance issues, and larger institutional priorities.
Fiscal Responsibility
Develops and monitors operating budgets in cooperation with the Director of Athletics.
Responsible for fundraising efforts and Alumni engagement activities that benefit the Sprint Football program, the Department of Athletics, and CU-Mansfield campus.
Supervisory Responsibility
Will supervise all assistant coaches, managers and student employees associated with the Sprint football program.
Minimum Requirements Profile
Bachelor’s degree.
Previous football coaching experience at the collegiate, high school varsity, or prep school level.
CPR, AED, First Aid certification (obtained within six months of the commencement of employment and must maintain certification during employment).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
CPR, AED, First Aid certification
Three years of collegiate football coaching experience or five years of High School or Prep School Head Football Coaching experience.
Evidence of ability to successfully recruit and retain students.
Evidence of success in coaching.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Must be able to demonstrate an ability to recruit student athletes, organize a comprehensive football program and to manage all aspects of a football program. • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills • Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to academic and athletic excellence. • Must have a general understanding of NCAA Football Rules Book and Sprint Football Rules & Bylaws and be committed to their implementation and observance. • Must be committed to a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student athletes as well as the importance of good citizenship both on and off the field. • Must also possess a valid driver’s license and have certification in CPR and First Aid within six months of the commencement of employment and must maintain certification during employment.

The Mansfield Mountaineers or Mounties represent the Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, located in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Mountaineers are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for eleven varsity sports. Mansfield University Sprint Football team participates in the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL). Mansfield have been members of the PSAC since its foundation in 1951.
