Job Description:
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Assistant Coach, Track & Field/Cross Country -- Sprints/Hurdles/Vertical Jumps position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).
This position will be responsible for the preparation of student-athletes for practices, team functions, and competitive events. This includes but is not limited to any planning, instruction, and/or positive motivation needed to meet this responsibility successfully. This position will lead student athletes on best performance practices, game strategies and safety rules. Additionally, this position will provide support to and at the direction of the Head Coach of Track & Field/Cross Country to carry out the successful management of the sport programs.
This position will require effective recruiting and retention strategies to include the evaluation of potential student-athletes' strengths and weaknesses in determining a fit within program's needs. Finally, this position will embody a holistic approach to developing the Ivy League student athlete in conjunction with University or Athletic Department policies while serving as a mentor to student-athletes on academic and individual issues.
All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).
Background Check - Criminal, Education, MVR
Education
Bachelor's Degree, required.
2-4 years coaching experience with a competitive club, high school or collegiate program; prior collegiate coaching experience preferred (and/or a combination of coaching and competitive playing experience).
Competitive collegiate and/or international playing experience, preferred.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and computer skills, necessary.
Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students.
Excellent sport-specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.
Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
Basic proficiency in Excel, Word, internet and email capabilities.
Social media experience, helpful.
Prior experience with video editing software, helpful.
Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game and ability to coach and motivate.
Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background, Education and DMV check satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
