Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Head Coach for Men's and Women's Track & Field is responsible for the administration of both the Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field programs at Dickinson College. They are responsible for building and maintaining a roster which provides competitive depth at each event. The position is responsible for recruiting and developing talented s-a's who understand and embrace the balance between academics and athletics. The position is also responsible for scheduling and conducting meets/practices, and the oversight of an event coaching staff. A secondary duty will also be part of the position, which will not conflict with their primary role as Head Track & Field Coach.
Essential functions:
Educate and develop student-athletes to prepare them for success within the track & field program, classroom, and community. Plan and implement valuable learning experiences where student-athletes are challenged to excel both in the classroom and within the Track & Field program. Implement periodic check-ins/meetings with program participants to support their academic pursuits and their navigation of the student-athlete experience. Prepare workout programs and coaching strategies that will serve to maximize performance opportunities for student-athletes participating in the program. Conduct team building activities to create and sustain a strong team culture.
Recruit qualified and talented student-athletes to Dickinson through attending high school invitational meets, the use of recruiting services, and reaching out to those track & field student-athletes whose performances are seen as desirable for the program. Initiate and maintain communication with prospective recruits through letters, email, telephone calls, social media and hosting/coordinating on-campus visits based on NCAA compliance standards and regulations.
Management of operational/administrative functions. Oversees the fiscal/budgetary components for the track & field program. Schedule all practices and competitive events. Organizes team travel, meals, and overnight accommodations. Participate in the purchase and oversight of team equipment/gear. In collaboration with the Athletic Director, hires and supervises assistant coaching staff.
Work closely with College Advancement in creating fund raising strategies/opportunities for the program. Establish and maintain relationships with alumni athletes and parents through telephone calls, letters, emails, social media, and creating/attending alumni events. Assists in raising funds for the athletic department. Plan and implement community programming such as clinics, camps, and service opportunities, etc.
