There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.Do you consider yourself a confident, self-starter/learner with a passion for serving students?We are currently seeking a Workforce Credentials and Apprenticeship Advisor to assist students interested or enrolling in non-credit workforce training with career and educational planning services, program admissions, financial aid support, successful training and credential completion, identifying work-based learning opportunities and job placement, and retention strategies. The Advisor assists students in overcoming barriers to their success by connecting them to support services in the region including one-stop career centers as appropriate.The Advisor works closely with students before, during, and after their training and credentialing programs to assist the college workforce division in achieving their goals. The Advisor represents the college at outreach events such as career days and college days at high-schools as well as job fairs and sets up booths at community events. The Advisor maintains a database of active credit for prior learning agreements. The incumbent is also the first point of contact for students wishing to apply for credit for prior learning based on their work experience and credentials.The Advisor also serves as the chief point of contact for the apprenticeship program and assists in developing and implementing apprenticeship programs and helping interested students with program admissions and financial aid to get enrolled in classes. This position also works with Workforce and credit Career Coaches to keep them updated on non-credit and apprenticeship programs.Some evening and weekend work will be necessary.
Required KSA's and qualifications include:Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Human Resources, Personnel Management or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.Valid Virginia driver's licenseProficiency in the use of technology, internet applications and PC-based software, including Microsoft Office and Google docsExcellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with community college and workforce partners and employersBasic knowledge of the workforce development and apprenticeship system in Virginia and support resources along with experience in accessing supportive service for clientsKnowledgeable of barriers to educational success and a desire to help others reach their educational goalsStrong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate studentsExcellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively follow up and follow throughAbility to build relationships and provide excellent career services to student pursuing short-term workforce and apprenticeship trainingAbility to maintain appropriate legal compliance in the areas of confidentiality and records managementAbility to use independent judgment and discretion; ability to manage multiple projects/tasksKnowledge of DOLI Apprenticeship programs and classesKnowledge and experience using a student information system such as SIS and PeoplesoftKnowledge of student resources including financial programs for Workforce (e.g., WCG, FANTIC)and supportive servicesExperience with career assessment and development of individual action plansJob search, resume writing, interview skills and professional soft skillsExperience working with individuals from underserved populationsAbility to effectively solve problems
