Position Summary:
The purpose of the Head Football Coach is to organize and facilitate all aspects of the program in a professional manner that will translate into a successful and fulfilling experience for all student-athletes who are associated with the program. Other responsibilities include directing all aspects of a competitive NAIA football program including compliance with NAIA and University rules and regulations; recruitment of qualified, gifted student-athletes; contest scheduling; budget management; fund-raising; and retention of student-athletes. A head coach at SOU is expected to create an environment of respect, trust and commitment for his/her team. His/her efforts are focused by the following seven goals; 1. To positively affect the social growth and ethical engagement of our student-athletes 2.To create an environment of excellence. 3. To educate student-athletes about the importance and value of academic integrity, performance and graduation. 4. To provide a positive public identity for SOU. 5. To invest in the growth of our programs through sound fiscal management. 6. To create community and cultivate Raider identity. 7. To provide a fun and exciting atmosphere for SOU students and the community.
Minimum Classification Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of three years college coaching or playing experience. A well-constructed and demonstrated coaching philosophy that focuses on character development. Ability and willingness to travel long distances for competitions and recruitment; work nights and weekends. Experience with/ability to interact with a diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree. Experience as a college head coach or coordinator. Public institution experience (NAIA, NCAADII, or high school).
All Listed Duties:
Recruit and retain highly skilled and academically motivated student-athletes of character for the football team.

Organize and facilitate team practices, teaching football skills and techniques at a level appropriate for collegiate competition

Develop practices, policies, and procedures necessary to accomplish the objectives of the sport within the guidelines of the NAIA and the University, including proper fiscal management

Supervise, manage, and provide direction to football coaching staff, including but not limited to Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, assistant and position coaches and other team personnel

Intentionally teach character skills to the student-athletes, and hold them accountable to a well-constructed and communicated set of principles and expectations. Special attention should be paid to the education of student-athletes around the issues of sexual assault, consent and responsible relationships

Arrange transportation, lodging, and meal accommodations for scheduled away contests.

Teach a maximum of three PEA credits per year. These can be three one-credit courses or one three-credit course. Courses are graded and evaluated.

Fund-raise for the football team

Perform other job related duties as assigned by athletic administration

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
