The position serves an integral role in the day-to-day management of the Athletics Compliance Office ensuring adherence to applicable NCAA, Mid-American Conference and university rules and regulations designed to mitigate risks and liability to Ohio University. Additionally, serve as the compliance educator to the coaches and student-athletes of all 16 varsity sports.
1. Management of student-athlete eligibility for 16 varsity sports. Oversee and monitor the determination of student-athlete eligibility for initial and continuing eligibility and financial aid. Provide preliminary evaluation of all prospective student-athletes to ensure they are meeting initial NCAA and Ohio University eligibility requirements. Monitor the eligibility/admission status of all designated incoming freshman and transfer student-athletes. Advise coaches on recruitable student-athletes by correctly predicting NCAA eligibility; communicate with high schools to facilitate the initial eligibility process with the NCAA; serves as liaison with admissions regarding status and potential issues of incoming student-athletes. Compose requests for eligibility waivers and appeals related to NCAA rules and regulations.
2. Administer the NCAA Coaches Certification (Recruiting) exam to coaches currently employed at Ohio University. Supervise recruiting activity for 16 varsity sports. Monitor coach recruiting activities for compliance with NCAA rules; tracks and maintains documentation for all off campus recruiting, contacts with prospective student-athletes and families, evaluations of high school sporting events. Review and approve requests related to preliminary on-campus visits taken by prospective student-athletes. Educate Ohio University student-athlete hosts regarding NCAA permissible activities regarding on-campus visits.
3. Countable Athletically Related Activity (CARA) documentation and monitoring of NCAA limitations regarding daily and weekly practice hour limitations, number of days with allowable practice, number and timing of competitions. Serve as JumpForward program administrator by maintaining annual compliance documents and student-athlete profiles to ensure compliance standards are met for all transactions. Serve as staff liaison to coaches and staff.
4. Monitor all camp and clinic activity for all athletic department sport camps. Responsible for working with coaching staff to set camp dates and locations. Approve promotional materials involving all camps. Using the Jumpforward system to monitor employment, participants and registration.
5. Compile scholarship information for the financial aid office to post. Monitor financial aid for compliance with NCAA rules, budget oversight, and EADA compliance. Assist with monitoring disbursement of athletic aid and any hold information. Meet with student athletes to explain hold issues and dispense hold information to coaches to ensure timely registration.
6. Research and interpret NCAA, Mid-American Conference, and Ohio University regulations for coaches and staff and analyze presented scenarios to determine permissibility. Educate coaches, athletic staff, student-athletes to ensure understanding and compliance with NCAA rules.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. At least one year of experience with Division I compliance required. Management experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred, Division I (FBS) experience, proficiency with NCAA Compliance Assistant internet program preferred, knowledge of JumpForward and PeopleSoft programs, NAAC Education Certification and experience with the administration of student-athlete financial aid are preferred.
