Located five miles from downtown Boston, Tufts University is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the highly-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Tufts students participate in 30 varsity sports, 20 club sports and a number of intramural sports. Tufts Athletics has won eleven NCAA team championships since 2010 and has finished in the top 10 of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup in each of the last eight years, including a program-best 3rd place finish in 2016-17. Tufts Athletics oversees the Physical Education Department and manages all athletics facilities, including the Steve Tisch Sports & Fitness Center that opened in 2012. The head coach for men's basketball is responsible for effectively operating all aspects of an NCAA Division III men's basketball program. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting academically qualified and athletically talented high school athletes, leading and managing the student-athletes and assistant coaches, organizing and running practices, creating and sustaining an environment that supports the Tufts mission, building a competitive schedule, operating the program within budgetary limits, managing administrative tasks effectively, and actively participating in alumni engagement and fundraising activities.
Bachelor's Degree; a minimum of 5 years coaching experience
Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively coach the sport of basketball, develop and relate to student-athletes in an extremely competitive academic environment
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; gender equity; and the mission of Tufts University
Knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and a commitment to abide by them at all times
Ability to recruit academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes to Tufts
Dedication to the full academic, athletic and social development of student-athletes
Extensive knowledge of the sport and a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies with a demonstrated ability to enhance student-athlete development
* Ability to communicate effectively and foster positive relations with fellow athletics department staff members, student-athletes and other members of the Tufts community, including faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and local community members
Valid US driver's license and ability to travel are required
Competitive collegiate playing experience
