The assistant athletics trainer works under the supervision of the head athletics trainer and supervises the care of student athletes competing in the Department of Athletics at Colorado School of Mines. The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of both short and long term injuries.
Responsibilities: - The assistant athletics trainer will provide coverage of assigned athletic practices, contests and related events under the supervision of the head athletics trainer. This includes all home contests. - Assists student collegiate athletes with the prevention, assessment, treatment and reconditioning of athletic injuries as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification. - Carry out all physician prescribed treatments and recommendations. - Ensure all student athletes submit valid medical paperwork and physical exams prior to athletic participation - Complete proper taping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment as needed. - Document all injuries and rehabilitation.
Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology or related field
Certification by the NATA Board of Certification
Professional CPR/AED and First Aid Certified
Master's Degree in athletic training or related field
3 years experience as a certified athletic trainer at a high school or collegiate level
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, coaches, administrators and staff
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and solve complex problems
Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations
