About the Department:
Mason Recreation oversees three facilities on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University including the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC), the Aquatic Fitness Center (AFC), and Skyline fitness center. These facilities boast four gymnasiums, racquetball/ squash courts, several locker rooms, fitness galleries and dedicated rooms for yoga, cycling, group exercise, and marital arts/ self-defense classes. We house and maintain a recreation and competition pool, sauna, whirlpool, and several exterior facilities including a pavilion, turf and grass fields, jogging/ walking trails, and a team challenge course on our Science and Technology Campus. We provide the following programs and services for the campus community: Fitness, Aquatics, Outdoor Adventures, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, the EDGE (team building programming), as well as a Summer Youth Camp.
The EDGE Staff Scheduler creates and maintains the staff schedule for the challenge course, ensuring staff are assigned appropriately and are able to access an accurate and up to date schedule.
Create and maintain staff schedule for programs;
Communicate specific schedule-related information to staff;
Continually work with and document individual staff availability and scheduling needs;
Reserve program space at Mason's Science and Technology Campus;
Communicate program space assignments to staff (SciTech and non-SciTech spaces);
Act as the main editor of the staff calendar, providing training and guidance for staff as well as other administrators using the calendar as appropriate;
Attend regular administrative and operations meetings.
Active and valid American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications (or higher level) or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire;
A high school diploma or equivalent;
Ability to communicate effectively, work independently and cooperatively, provide excellent customer service, pay close attention to detail, and follow established procedures, policies, and protocol.
Demonstrated experience working as a challenge course facilitator;
Bachelor's degree and/or documented experience and training in experiential education or related fields;
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of various recreational activities and programs related to challenge courses and experiential education;
Knowledge of risk management practices and procedures;
Knowledge of the principles of supervision and training;
Knowledge of the use and operation of computers and software, in particular Microsoft Suite and staff scheduling software;
Ability to plan, develop, and implement diverse programs;
Ability to work with a diverse frequently changing population of clients, participants, employees, and the public;
Ability to analyze programs, developing methods to achieve goals;
Ability to organize data and maintain records;
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and those contacted during the course of work;
Ability to conduct meetings with staff and management;
Ability to effectively counsel and train staff individually and in groups regarding schedule and other electronic tools;
Ability to work a flexible schedule.
Salary: $12.00-$15.00 per hour.
