The Office of Admissions is a department under the Office of Enrollment Services and the front-facing department to the public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. Responsible for recruiting the freshman class each year for the Bloomington campus by hosting more than 40,000 visitors each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions process, providing accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and marketing and representing IU Bloomington at both on and off campus events and programs. Serves the mission and directives of Indiana University by consulting with campus academic units and independently exercising decision making authority to achieve student recruitment, outreach, admissions, and enrollment objectives for various academic units. Assists with the planning, management and implementation of enhanced transfer student recruitment programs. As a territory manager, represents the University at high school visits, college nights, and recruitment events on and off campus and manages recruitment resources. Analyzes data and ensures that goals are met; and takes action consistent with this analysis and provides leadership for academic and student service units on admission strategies. Interprets academic policies and exercises authority and independent judgment on a case-by-case basis. Investigate complaints and questions and determines the best course of action for students and families. Provides training and orientation for staff and volunteers involved in recruitment activities.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience in admissions, recruitment, marketing, higher education and/or related area.
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills including ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Strong organizational skills including ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment while managing many different constituencies at once. Proven ability to work independently, under limited supervision, use discretion and independent judgement in a fast paced environment while providing complex solutions.
Master's degree; strong computer skills; supervisory experience; knowledge of IU, state and federal guidelines pertaining to higher education and admission policies.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
This position requires travel, both in state and out of state, which causes physical and mental drain. During the height of the recruiting season, it is common to work 60-65 hours weeks (including some weekends) for five to six consecutive weeks, also causing physical and mental drain.
During the height of application and file review, there is considerable mental concentration and visual strain while reviewing applications for admissions for hours at a time.
This position includes lifting and carrying a variety of materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
