STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED
Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of special events and student-athlete enhancement intern. This is a grant-funded position with a limited contract duration of 10 months, without guarantee or expectation of renewal.
The position is responsible for sponsor activation, department special events and enhancing the student-athlete experience at Lake Erie College.
Grant funding terms limit this opportunity to ethnic minorities and/or women. Professional development opportunities are included in the grant.
25% Assists with sponsor activations:
Conducts pre-game/half-time/contest break activities to highlight sponsors and improve game environment.
Invites athletic sponsors to take part in campus wide events/opportunities.
Coordinates appearances/events at sponsor locations.
Establishes Storm Club events before/during/after competitions.
Develops student-athlete recognition program through social media and website (example: Student-Athlete of the Month/Week presented by XYZ Sponsor).
15% Organizes community engagement and service for the department:
Creates relationships and opportunities to allow student service in the community.
Serves as the lead administrator for the Harvey High School Mentorship Program.
Engages groups in area for continuing projects and visits to campus.
Partners with student activities for campus-wide initiatives.
Explores partnership with Team Impact and Make-A-Wish.
25% Develops Student-Athlete Enhancement Program:
Establishes and conducts workshops around life skills and career/grad school preparation.
Determines initiatives for LEC to become involved (RISE, Step UP! Apple, etc.).
15% Assists director of athletics with special events for the department:
Works closely with Alumni Relations on Hall of Fame.
Assists with ESPY-style annual awards program, The Tibby’s.
Organizes events around national and NCAA dates (Hazing Prevention Week, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, National Girls and Women in Sport, Black History Month, etc.).
10% Assists with academic support program within Athletics:
Identifies and meets with students needing individualized academic support.
Meets with prospective student-athletes.
Tracks enrollment status and path to graduation with athletics compliance director.
Assists with study tables for the department.
Connects students with campus resources for academic support.
Works closely with FAR regarding missed class time for competition/injury, etc.
Follows all institutional and NCAA regulations regarding recruiting and operations of athletics in general.
Serves as an ambassador for the department and Lake Erie College, exhibiting our mission, vision and core values.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Work experience in a related field preferred.
Strong interpersonal and organizational communication.
Demonstrated skill with technologies used in education and a level of success in working in diverse environments within higher education.
Ability to work with confidential information and maintain care and understanding of that information.
Qualified applicants will have the availability to work evenings and weekends, possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record and the ability to travel for the athletics department.
