Posting Summary: The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division within Virginia Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for two positions--Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer. These are part-time, wage positions with the primary purpose of meeting or exceeding the fitness program demands of the University community (students, faculty, staff and UVa affiliates).
FITNESS INSTRUCTOR: The Fitness Instructor teaches group exercise classes or fitness classes/workshops. Experience and skills could include teaching one or more fitness class or workshop formats including, but not limited to, cardio, strength, yoga, Pilates, group cycling, Zumba, interval training, kickboxing, step training, water exercise, dance, T'ai Chi, etc.
PERSONAL TRAINER: The Personal Trainer conducts fitness assessments and personal training sessions with clients. Develops and monitors fitness goals and exercise programs to meet client needs and interests.
Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Not Required
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: FITNESS INSTRUCTOR: Some experience teaching group exercise or fitness classes/workshops.
PERSONAL TRAINER: Some experience conducting fitness assessments and personal training sessions.
Preferred License or Certification: FITNESS INSTRUCTOR: Group Exercise Instructor or similar certification from a nationally recognized association (e.g., AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NETA, etc.).
PERSONAL TRAINER: Personal Trainer or similar certification from a nationally recognized association (e.g., ACSM, NASM, NSCA, AFAA, ACE, etc.).
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: FITNESS INSTRUCTOR: Demonstrated knowledge and competency instructing group exercise or fitness classes/workshops.
PERSONAL TRAINER: Demonstrated knowledge and competency in personal training.
