Posting Summary: The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division of Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lifeguard (a part-time, wage position). Lifeguards work at both the Aquatic & Fitness and North Grounds Recreation Center aquatics facilities.
Lifeguards serve this community in a respectful, professional, and positive manner by observing swimmers and enforcing regulations in the guarding of life and the prevention of accidents at the swimming pool.
SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS: Work scheduled university breaks including Fall Break, November, Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer. Work some opening and closing shifts when available. Work a minimum of 2-3 shifts per month.
Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: - Lifeguard experience - Proficient swimming ability - Ability to properly extract victims from pool to deck, and proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques.
Required License or Certification: - American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid - CPR/AED Professional Rescuer
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Self-motivated - Ability to work in a team environment.
