Siena Heights University, a Catholic coeducational institution, sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, offering both bachelors and master’s degrees, seeks qualified individuals for a full-time eSports Director and Head Coach. Siena Heights is a member of the NAIA and the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
This is a full-time staff appointment responsible for planning, organizing and managing all phases of the eSports program including recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes. The eSports Director and Head Coach will foster and support student-athlete growth and maturation while managing the eSports budget. This position is also responsible for design and execution of practice and game plans, construction of season schedules, and supervision of gamers. This person will also assist with the development of the eSports competition and practice venue. The successful candidate must comply with all rules, regulations, and policies set forth by and Siena Heights University and any eSports governing body that Siena Heights University will join.
Recruiting student-athletes for the eSports program by establishing recruiting goals in conjunction with the Athletic Director and Director of Admissions. Develops a relationship with the stakeholders in the sport of eSports and works to establish the Siena Heights University reputation in the community. Establishing networking through high schools, travel programs, junior colleges as well as parents and student athletes. Develop recruiting travel schedule to high schools and junior colleges. Maintain recruiting correspondence with high school and junior college coaches as well as prospective student-athletes. Prepares the student-athlete for competition in the eSports season by organizing daily practice plans. Instructs athletes in game strategy and rules knowledge. Schedules contests for the ESports program subject to the approval of the Athletic Director and in accordance with NAIA guidelines. Plans all travel arrangements for the team, including all transportation, overnight accommodations, and meals. Provides statistical data in an accurate and timely fashion to the Sports Information Director. Coordinates and manages the eSports budget, including but not limited to travel, equipment and fees. Coordinates fundraising projects to benefit the eSports program. Mentoring eSports student athletes to be successful academically, socially, and behaviorally. Promote and cultivate a team environment in which student-athletes demonstrate competent, purposeful, and ethical characteristics. Consummate collaboration with the rest of the Student Life Division, academic advisors, and faculty will be expected. This position is institutionally authorized to accept financial aid documents and verify information. Other duties within the scope of division’s responsibilities as defined by the Athletic Director.
Requires Bachelor’s degree with a Master Degree preferred. Competitive eSports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and experience in at least one of the following games: League of Legends, Overwatch, and Hearthstone. Design of competitive arena space on campus preferred. Must have excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to instruct and motivate student-athletes and part-time assistant coaches. Must be able to communicate clearly in writing as well as have highly developed time management skills.
