Posting Summary: The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division within Virginia Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for Group Exercise / Fitness Instructors. These are part-time, wage positions with the primary purpose of directly leading group exercise classes and/or group-training workshops/seminars to meet the fitness interests and demands of the University community (students, faculty, staff and UVa affiliates).
Experience and skills could include teaching one or more fitness class or workshop formats including, but not limited to, cycling, Zumba, yoga, Pilates, strength, step, weight loss, wellness, kickboxing, interval training, water aerobics, dance, T'ai Chi, etc.
We are seeking instructors with the ability to fully engage with students and members in vibrant activities that promote fitness and wellness including identifying the need for and modifying movements for participant safety. Ideal candidates will have the availability to teach at least 2-3 classes per week and/or 1 or more group-training workshops/seminars per semester. Instructors are expected to attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service sessions.
Instructors are expected to establish a positive rapport and relationship with student and departmental staff, members and guests of the facility as well as promote exceptional customer service to create a positive environment for members and guests. Instructors are also expected to maintain a Standard of Excellence in professionalism and safety.
Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Not Required
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Some experience leading group exercise classes and/or group training workshops/seminars.
Required License or Certification: Nationally recognized group exercise instructor certification such as AFAA, ACE, NETA, ACSM, etc. is required. Specialty certifications such as TRX, kettlebell, cycling, Zumba, etc. is preferred.
